Los Viajeros
4-day ride
V6 Varian Ranch, Parkfield

June 12-15, 2008

Nestled in the Cholame Valley (just four easy driving hours from Woodside), the V-6 Ranch has 20,000 acres of the most diverse and beautiful country in the heart of Central California.

The V-6 Ranch is a real working cattle ranch where the owners, Jack and Zee Varian, devote their time to working cattle and training horses. The ranch is a wonderful place to fish, swim and ride. V-6 has over 50 scenic miles of wellmarked trails.

Interested in earthquakes? The Parkfield sign reads " The Earthquake Capital of the world - be there when it happens! "

V-6 has a spacious campground with lots of oak trees for shade and there are 36 corrals, available on a first-come, first-serve basis. (If you have your own, please bring them anyway if convenient, so we can be sure to have enough for all!). The site features a large covered eating area and a central fire ring, as well as a wash rack and fresh well water ( 20 hose bibs throughout the campground) There are bathrooms and showers available for our use. They have recently added a 6-room bunk house, available for $50 per room (2 twin beds per room). You can reserve/pay through LV.

The terrain varies from easy level ranch roads to moderate climbs on cattle trails and ranch roads to some steeper, longer climbs on trails and ranch roads. There's sure to be something suitable for everybody. You can also just ride to the lake ( about an hour of easy riding) and fish and/or swim and ride back in time for happy hour. Our games director, Noel, has some fun water games in store for us - Bring your water toys!

We're also planning some fun stuff for the evenings: We'll ride to town to the Parkfield Café for dinner and Dancing on Friday night, Saturday night we'll have our wonderful annual raffle and silent auction and then it’s time for this year’s performance of the Famous Fowl Players!

Cost: $325 Members, $375 Guests Price includes Breakfast, lunch, dinner, bar & hors d'oeuvres Thursday through Saturday, plus breakfast and lunch on Sunday; camping fees from Wed through Sunday, ride pin and a special gift.

If you wish to come for part of the ride, the cost is $90 per day (or any part thereof) for members, $110 for guests. Dinner only on Fri or Sat night: $ 35.

We can come into the campground starting Monday, June 9, so you are welcome to come early, and we’re also welcome to stay till Monday, June 16. The camp fee is $ 25 per night per person (with or without a horse) for the extra nights, with a minimum reservation of two “official” days.
